We interviewed other agents and based on what they said, I was discouraged and started thinking about walking away from the mortgage. I told them how much I needed to pay off the mortgage. They all suggested a starting list price that was lower than I could’ve taken even if I wanted to. They were very nice, with many compliments but told me my house would never appraise for what I was asking (and buyers wouldn’t be approved for mortgages that high).Then I met Donna. She was blunt and maybe a bit intimidating. She said my location was great, the kitchen/dining area was “special” and the main selling point she’d highlight. When I said I was worried about it appraising for what I needed to get for it, she confidently said something like “you never know what will happen, people have a lot of cash to put down on houses these days, so the appraisal may not mean as much as you think.
